pressing that horn, hilariously relatable
Came across this again today, 6'4" but it's all in my legs, 38" inside leg. Just did the Pyrenees on my Tiger 1200, got the SWMOTECH adjustable pegs, some scraping in the bends but did 2500 miles without cramp or issue. One trick is to put the seat high setting on the front and low setting on the back so it doesn't push you into the engine crash bars.
So after you complete this exercise you now have oily fingers, oily Allen wrench and confirmed that if you loosen an oil gallery bolt, oil will now out drip out. If you are worried about oil pressure, install an oil pressure gauge.
I thought he’s gonna complain about the noisy exhaust!!!😂😂😂
Nope he loved it
150nm of torque more than an MT10 and Suzuki B king. Absolute brute
I like seeing how others do stuff & you done ok here mate! 🤪👍 I've used lot's of different chain lubes & that Banana Slip is the best available IMO & as you said it kind of sets & creates a coating on the chain, which definitely helps with all that bloody rain! 🤣✌️ Are you going to the ABR Tom & have you been before? 😬
Hi John, yeah it does seem to be the best all-round chain lube in my experience. I was going to come up for just a day, but I can't justify the £75 cost. Also unfortunately missed out on weekend tickets. I went back in 2021, done a few vids about it. It's a great event 👍🏻
@tomstc Yeah it's a big hit for just 1 mate & more so when your forking out for oil services, tyres & your MT-01's MOT! 🤬🤣👍 I've not heard anyone who's been to the ABR say anything negative really ,so hopefully it'll be well worth the money & the travel time! 😎✌️
Does the cruise control switch off if you push the throttle forward like on a BMW ?
I don't know actually? I'll check that
Yes it does 😀
@@tomstc that’s handy. 👍
Keeps the warranty and resale value up.
It does, but I think it's a bit steep. Especially when all they do is basically change the oil and look over the bike
@@tomstc true, that's the joy of a new bike I guess.
@SloboloboVFR it's one of the reasons I didn't want to go new, but the deal I got on the Suzuki I couldn't refuse
Ouch £300 for an oil change 🫣 did they have to rebalance your wheel after they put the goo in?.
It was £269 for the service and £30 for the tyre seal. The tyre seal is about £30 anyway, they didn't have to rebalance it
Quiet bike, isnt it?
Well compared to the MT-01, most definitely
If you have rubber O rings on your chain use Armor all to clean the chain. I know it sounds weird but it works very well for chain cleaning. When you're done just lube it with whatever your preference is.
That's a nice cafe at Bridge, rather nice breakfasts😁 The Kawasaki dealer in Bournemouth couldn't wait to tell me I could get it serviced at non Kwak dealerships as long as part numbers were on the receipt, and it was done to Kwak spec. Nothing worse than having to constantly adjust ya right hand, always good to hit the spot first time 🤣🤣
I miss my superduke i'd buy one of these given the cash the duke would chew it up but not the point Great bikes
I won’t buy another Goldwing until they bring back the bigger fairing ua-cam.com/video/uPRdNlg90ro/v-deo.htmlsi=RseUywRXBvEFkqbE
No no and no horrible thing That’s not a motorbike it’s a Chesterfield with wheels Yuck
🤣🤣🤣
Bit too much one handed riding
Is there a correct amount of 1 handed riding percentage per ride?
@@tomstc ideally none 😊
I ride a 2003 VTX 1800 it's a nice ride.
Enjoyed that, thanks. Ive got an old wing 02 for two up trips with the missus and its a nice fit for me, but im only 6'3" 😀 I'd consider a new one but i just don't think the tech is worth it. Subbed.
Thank you
A stock screen that works for tall riders? That's a miracle! Even the highly praised NT1100 screen doesn't work for me, if only the gold wing wasn't so ridiculously heavy and expensive. Thanks for the review!
The screen was really good I liked that
Being mainly a motocross and sport bike rider, I've never ridden an automatic motorcycle. I've love to try it, but I'd imagine it'd be somewhat awkward. I guess I'll find out.
It's odd, but also can see the appeal
I hated the cleaning process that involves chain cleaner. The solvent can actually infiltrate inside the o-ring and fuck up your chain. Nowdays I spray silicone oil because it doesn't require any solvent to get cleaned and new sprays would just wash away anything filthy. Just mind that it doesn't stay on your chain like a dedicated chain lube so you have to lube far more often.
Canned silicone spray is even simpler because it immediately dries and doesn't fling off at all, but because it dries up as soon as it comes in contact with air it will not be able to wash away dust & gunk. Those dry-type silicone spray is perfect for cable lubrication.
I'm thinking of the 1050DE as my next bike and one thing that worries me is the fact that it needs to filter thru heavy traffic in rush hrs. I can swap the wide handlebar with the std version's narrower bar but the weight is daunting tbh.. what's your thoughts?
Filtering through traffic is a breeze, it's really tall so you can see over the traffic. It's a bit weighty, however you don't really feel that. The 21 inch wheel is actually a god send when you're dealing with pot holes and ruts on the roads. I would recommend a test ride.....
@@tomstc Thx for the input mate. I'm really torn between the 1050 and the 650 as the smaller one is lighter and slightly cheaper to run considering the daily commutes. Too bad the Suzuki distributer in my country don't sell the 800RE here
@slipngrip that's frustrating, the 800 would probably be a very good option. One thing that stopped me looking at the 800s was no cruise control, having cruise control is awesome
@@tomstc 90% of my riding is inner city so the lack of CC is not an issue for me. I just wanted a puchy, roomy, tall, good-looking manual transmission for two-up riding in downtown... god damn the 800RE woulda been so perfect. Maybe I'll consider the 750 Transalp once Honda revises the design of that cheapo headlight.
@@slipngripTracer 9 should do you fine for that, surely?
Sooner have your vstrom if I'm honest
Most definitely
The Missenden Flyer loves his but guess his legs aren’t as chunky as yours. Bit strange about the size because the bike is designed and built in California where people tend to be on the big size. Stop singing you will frighten the dogs.🤪
Dogs love the signing! Yes I did think it was going to be more roomy
Quote an experience isn't it. How dare you go to bridge without meeting me 😮😂
Do you know what I was thinking about messaging but i didn't know how long I would be there, turns out I was there until 2pm
@@tomstc ha no worries mate 👍🍻
Good video if bike has only 500 miles on it when you bought it you’ll find the quick shifter and blipper will work better when it’s run in and should be super smooth hopefully I hope you enjoy your new bike and have some fun take care ride safe mate 💪💪👍
Thanks for the advice
Chain off, into a solvent (petrol / diesel) container, agitate, remove blow dry. Wipe down. Re-lube, re-install. Assuming you have a master-link, somewhere??
And make sure you don't have rubber O rings on your chain if you use solvent.
i mean.......it isnt a KTM, but i like it mate and sounds like the perfect bike for what you need it for. I know the feeling with tyres, i had just put some brand new PR6s on my old KTM when i decided to swap it and they wouldnt swap the tyres over, so i had to buy more for my new one, skint me for a month that one did.
I find it interesting how we all find different ways on maintaining our chains. I use gear oil i find it much easier to clean off and looking tip top, also cost-effective. Great video 👍🏻
Thank you, I have have heard of people using gear oil. Does it fling off though?
@tomstc No more than any other chain lube when done correctly. I just used to hate having to remove all that chain lube/wax from hard to get to places was a job in itself. It is a controversial subject, but chain oil works for me. 👍🏻
@bigbadwolfwolf9581 I may test this on the Suzuki, what gear oil do you use?
@tomstc why not whats the harm in trying something new and making your own mind up. I use Castrol Transmax Manual Multivehicle 75W-90 1L Gear oil; as long as it's 75w-90, use any brand. Let me know how you get on. I'm intrigued on your thoughts once you have given it a go👍🏻
@@bigbadwolfwolf9581 thanks, will do
I am 6ft 1, would you suggest the speed 400 for a rider of my hieght ? Edit: I did not realise you were 6 feet 6 ! Seeing you sat on it makes me feel reasured, so thank you !
Yeah I think it will be absolutely fine. I've got stupid long legs too
@tomstc many thanks. I'm on CRF 300L Rally, the newer model to what you currently ride in the video. Considering a second bike as I simply can't part with my Honda!
@jamesnoonan7450 nice one, I sold the CRF now but great bikes
That screen seems smaller and narrower than standard issue screen. I think
No I think its standard, maybe the angle
@@tomstc I checked properly. Your right 🏆🏆
Nicely done sir. I have to say, I may go back to a shaft drive bike when I change the Versys, having a chain again after so long without, I've found to be a right royal pain in the ass😁😁
Haha! I did initially look at the Super Tenere 1200 because it was a shaft! I don't mind looking after a chain though
So chuffed you went for a strom mate. I think I'll be the same as you, B mode is less hair tigger. Am I right in saying that the DE have wider bars too? Lovely bike Tom 😎😎
Yes I think so slightly wider bars. You can definitely feel the power difference on the modes, I really like the way power modes and TC is separate
@@tomstc I'm a woose so I keep TC on 😅
@@GermanJobbies 🤣
Hi Tom, glad you've bought a 1050 DE. I was looking at that very bike from TBB on Autotrader and it seemsed like a great buy. I'm in the market for one for the same reasons as you - they're unbeatable value on the 2nd hand market. There is a tail tidy available from a german company called Hessler. They prepare rally spec Suzuki's that resemble the old 80s/90s Dakar Rally DR Big 800's. UA-cam won't let me paster the link but google 'DESERT EXPRESS HECK 1050' and it'll take you to the tail tidy that they sell. Can't wait for you future videos!
Morning Tom, Get a Carpuride like Howies 👍👍 As far s I'm aware, dealers have to honour the warranty as long as the servicing schedule is followed and genuine/approved manufacturer parts are used. My Kawasaki dealer confirmed that but you do have to have receipts to prove it. My BMW was the same. I'm sure they'll try and get you to take it there either way. My QS is the same on the Versys, not very smooth at low speeds, but then that's not when they are designed to be used. Definitely a good choice with that bike bud, very nice.
Thanks for the info mate 👍🏻
collected mine from Spence on Friday and loving it too. I've ordered the low seat as I'm not as vertically blessed as you 😅 quickshifter is the same on mine, pants at low speeds. Keep the vids coming 👍
That's awesome! I was actually looking at the higher seat! Shame they don't have the adjustable seat on the DE?
@@tomstc yeah very odd decision from Suzuki, likewise with the front tubed wheel. what's your thoughts on dealing with a puncture? don't fancy having to swap out the front by the roadside. I'm going to put some Slime in my toolkit as a last resort but some people use it in advance to avoid the punctures in the first place but worried about how this could affect wheel balance...
@@andyryles78 This is my first experience with a larger bike that has a tubed wheel. However I did initially think wow what an odd thing to do, however when you look into it, technically its an off road bike. Being able to lower the pressure a bit at the front is a good thing, the 800DE is tubed back and front. I am also adding slime to my tool kit, with a canister of compressed air. However punctures are more than likely at the back than the front (apparently) I am heading to Bridge Motorcycles on Friday to get its 2nd service done, I am going to ask them their thoughts and if a conversion is possible so will let you know how it goes!
Absolutely brilliant bikes, I’ve got the blue one and it makes me smile every time I throw my leg over it.
Brilliant bikes I absolutely love mine and I swapped from a 1200 GS. Quickshifter is awesome
They certainly are, quick shifter is a great addition
My understand is the engine is from a kawasaki versys 650..
Yes your correct I got that wrong 🫣
I'm very glad to find your channel today. Great interview. Your dad seems great
Thank you 😊
What a great place to put a chapel
what its like to go from a litre bike back to a 125
It's fun, certainly feels nimble!!!
nice bike .... hope you get many smiles per mile 😎😎😎
Thank you sir
Hi Tom, I bought a 1050de brand new last year. It’s a great bike and 2000 miles in now. The Fuel Stealth exhaust makes it sound great and also looks good. The quick shifter takes a bit of getting used to but keeping the power on moving up the box works well for me. It’s a great bike for the bigger lads, you’ll love it 👍
Thanks for the comment, yup slowly getting used to the quick shift!
I've been riding the V-Strom 1050 DE in blue and white for a year. I drove through the winter in Germany. I am 1.80m tall. Despite the low seat, it took me a long time to get used to it due to the high center of gravity. (Seat height is normal 880mm, with low seat 850mm.) But now that's no longer a problem for me. A really great motorcycle. So far I've only driven it on the road. The only problem is the fiddly ignition lock. But let's see what they say at the inspection in a month.
I just purchased a leftover 2023 1050DE, I love the bike! It is great on gravel roads! Congrats on your new ride!
Thank you!!!
